I used as a child to have this edition of Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffman (click on the pic to unensmallen).It is that kind of early influence that has made me the man I am today: an unreliable, shunned and slightly insane alcoholic.
But I am not ever cruel, at least not wittingly. So clearly it has been a good influence.
