Fold It

One 30MB download later and I'm hooked on folding proteins.

And so you should be. Protein conformation is amazing. I've been fiddling with various folded proteins in one way or another for most of my career so I'm not necessarily objective...

I'll also give a shout out for folding proteins - best part of any biology lesson was when they got all those sticks and bobbles out and let you have a go at configurations.

Mind you, all mine did tend to look like a little girl sitting on a pony...

Ohara: I wonder if I scoured SwissProt or any of the protein databases I could find a protein conformation (real or predicted) that would have the approximate shape of a pretty girl on a pony? The human genome alone has approximately 30,000 orfs so there's a fairly good chance there would be a match (I think some of my bioinformaticist friends could give me an answer).

MD - that would be interesting. I think I just hoped somebody would notice my obsession with ponies and buy me one. A dolphin would also have been gratefully received.
