On the subject of science fiction, here is a translation of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's 1972 novella "Roadside Picnic" [PDF link], the inspiration for Tarkovsky's film "Stalker"(1979).
I don't much go for SciFi as a genre, but this is one of my favourite stories.
